The deputy said there were five children inside the residence at the time, aged between 7 and 16. The children did not witness the attack or shooting and were not injured, deputies said.
According to investigators, the husband and wife were at a family function earlier in the day. They returned to their home and that’s when the incident happened.
The MLA said that the reasons for the assault and firing are being investigated.
Officials are in contact with Child Protective Services, and believe the children will be left to a family member.
