A 21-year-old Thousand Oaks man has been arrested on suspicion of murder, torture and mayhem in connection with his girlfriend’s death early Friday, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The 24-year-old woman was found unresponsive, with serious injuries, in her Thousand Oaks apartment when deputies arrived shortly after 1:18 a.m. to the Lynn Villa Apartments in the 600 block of McCloud Avenue, said sheriff’s Sgt. Tim Lohman. The complex is located at the juncture of McCloud and Hillcrest Drive. The sheriff’s office is contracted to provide police services in Thousand Oaks.
Emergency personnel provided life-saving measures at the scene, where the woman was pronounced dead. Her name was not released Friday pending notification of family.
Sheriff’s investigators found evidence in the apartment that reportedly indicated the woman had been tortured prior to her death, officials said.
The suspect was described as the victim’s live-in boyfriend, who was arrested at the apartment. Authorities said the death was a domestic violence incident that left no outstanding threat to the community.
The suspect was booked into Ventura County jail on suspicion of the three felonies with bail set at $2 million, jail records showed. The Star generally does not name felony suspects until they have been formally charged by the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office.
