Five children have been orphaned after both parents died in a suspected murder-suicide in Houston on Christmas morning.
Harris County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to an address on Daun St around 1 a.m. on Christmas Day where they found a dead man and woman in the front yard.
They named the late Maria Gonzalez, 42, who authorities said suffered a blunt trauma to the head, and Arsenio Gonzalez, 45, who died from a single gunshot wound to the head.
Inside the house, they found five children between the ages of 7 and 16.
The children were not injured and did not see the deaths of their parents, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
The husband and wife had attended a family reception earlier in the evening, and the assault and shooting took place upon their return home, authorities said.
Investigators recovered a gun from the scene.
The children were placed in child protection services and should be returned to their family members.
“At the moment we are in contact with CPS and we will let them determine who it will be handed over, possibly family members,” Sergeant Greg Pinkins told Click2Houston.
“We will continue to do our investigation here and talk to family members who were likely at the party to see if we can get any information from the past.”
