Officials reported Friday that a prisoner who died in San Diego Central Prison last spring deliberately committed suicide by drinking a large amount of water that shut down his body.

Lester Daniel MalokinAccording to the San Diego County Security Agency, a 35-year-old man was found dead on the wet floor of a single cell in Front Street Detention Center on the afternoon of May 30.

Postmortem examination revealed that Malokin suffered a fatal β€œlowering of sodium, chloride, and potassium levels consistent with acute water intoxication,” said Lieutenant Thomas Saber.

The county coroner’s office has determined that Malokin’s death was suicide.

Malokin was arrested on December 18 last year on suspicion of assault by a murder weapon, was seriously injured by the assault, and has been in jail since resisting police and vandalism.
