A man and a woman believed to be his grandmother were found dead in a Montecito Heights home on Wednesday evening after a standoff of several hours, authorities said.
Police were called around 3:45 p.m. to report a shooting at a house in the 3700 block of Oak Hill Avenue, said Officer Mike Lopez, spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department. Upon arrival, officers observed a man in his twenties closing the door and barricading himself.
The man refused multiple exit orders and SWAT agents were called to the scene, Lopez said. Officers entered the house at around 6:30 p.m. after several attempts to get the man out.
They found the man on the ground, dead from a possible self-inflicted gunshot wound, Lopez said. A gun was found near his body.
Officers also found the body of a woman they believe to be her grandmother, Lopez said.
An investigation into the incident is underway. Further information was not available on Wednesday evening.
