James Island, South Carolina – As we already reported earlier today, Monday shooting incident on James Island resulted with one person shot and killed, while another person was injured and hospitalized.
The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office now released more details about the shooting and turned out the case was murder-suicide case.
According to Andrew Knapp, the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, the suspect was identified as the 56-year-old John Thomas Schaeffer and he is about to be charged with murder for shooting his wife to death. After killing his wife, he tried to kill himself, but ended up injured.
He is still in hospital for treatment in serious condition.
When deputies arrived at the scene to the 1200 block of Oceanview Road around 3:30 p.m. on Monday, they found the woman victim and she was pronounced dead at the scene. The other victim was Schaeffer, who was alive with one serious gunshot wound.
Deputies secured a firearm nearby and will be used as evidence.
According to Knapp, the suspect is in custody while his stay in the hospital. Once his condition improves, he is expected to have bond hearing.
