The Jefferson County Sheriffβs Office is investigating an apparent murder-suicide that occurred this morning (Jan. 17) at a home in the 1200 block of Fenton Ridge Drive near Spring Lake Park in unincorporated Fenton. A 43-year-old woman and a 47-year-old man were found dead in the home, Sheriffβs Dave Marshak said.
He would not release the name of the man and woman because the investigation is still underway.
βBased on the investigation thus far, this appears to be a domestic-related murder-suicide,β Marshak said this afternoon. βOne of our chaplains is on scene to help the family cope with this horrible tragedy.β
Marshak said the man and woman were married and lived at the home. He also said as of this afternoon, investigators had not found a history of domestic violence calls at the home.
The Sheriffβs Office got a call around 10:45 a.m. about the shooting, Marshak said.
The woman had called 911, and the dispatcher who answered the call heard gunshots. Neighbors also called 911 about the shooting after hearing gunshots and seeing two teenagers run from the home, Marshak said.
He said the teens seen running from the home are the coupleβs children, and neither of them were injured in the incident. He would not give their ages.
When deputies arrived, they entered the home and found the man and woman dead. A semi-automatic pistol was found in the manβs hand, and investigators believe he shot the woman before shooting himself, Marshak said.
