A man and a woman are dead after an apparent murder-suicide Friday morning in a home on the east side of Indianapolis, according to police.
Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to a home in the 6100 block of Nelson Place — near North Arlington Avenue and East 10th Street — before 10 a.m. Friday at the request of family to do a welfare check.
When police arrived, officers and family members entered the home and found a man and woman shot dead inside. Officer Genae Cook said the pair are believed to be in a relationship and preliminary investigation indicates the shooting was a murder-suicide.
Police did not release the identities of those involved.
The Marion County Coroner’s Office later identified the woman killed as 29-year-old Latia Scott, and ruled her death a homicide. The coroner identified the man as Dewayne Autman, 30, and ruled his death a suicide.
Friday’s killing on Nelson Place is the sixth homicide in Indianapolis in the first week of 2022.
