A deadly double shooting early Thursday in Brampton is now believed to be a murder-suicide.

Peel Regional Police say they received a call around 2 a.m. to do a wellness check on the occupant of a vehicle in the area of Redcastle and Kershaw Sts.

Officers located a 23-year-old Brampton man suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound outside of a vehicle and a 23-year old Brampton woman inside the vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators are treating this as an isolated incident and a case of domestic violence between two individuals who were in a relationship, police said Friday, adding investigators are not looking for any further suspects.

β€œOur service offers our sincere condolences to all those affected by this tragedy,” Deputy Chief Nick Milinovich said in a statement released Friday. β€œIt is a heartbreaking demonstration of the realities of gender-based violence.”

β€œIt reinforces the need for our community to continue collective efforts towards ending violence against women,” he added.

Anyone with information on this incident, surveillance footage, or dashcam video that may have captured the moments leading up to, during, or after the shooting is asked to call investigators at 905-453-2121, ext. 3205, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
