A fitness coach has recreated a ‘low calorie’ version of Betty’s Burger at home – complete with a juicy beef patty, smoky cheddar cheese and crispy brioche buns.

Bec Hardgrave, from Brisbane, made the classic burger using ingredients like beef mince, brioche bun, onion, tomatoes and lettuce.

For the ‘special’ sauce, the 25-year-old mixed together whole egg mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, sugar-free ketchup, pickle juice, garlic powder, salt and pepper.

Her version contains 455 calories while the burger shack has not specified its menu’s kilojoules or calories. However, Bec said she estimated the store’s burger could contain close to 800 calories.

‘Betty’s Burger fakeaway… Honestly this tastes low key exactly like the real thing! I used a bit more beef for Betty’s thicker beef patty and toasted the buns on the pan for that buttery crisp! Also I think I nailed the secret sauce,’ she said.

‘This is hands down my favourite takeaway burger and it’s very close to my heart after moving and living in Noosa where it first opened.’

Betty’s Burgers is a 1950’s inspired burger shack in Australia, which opened its first restaurant in 2014. There’s now 36 locations across New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and South Australia.

To make the burger, she used beef mince from Aldi to shape the patty into a ball.

‘Flatten it with a plate and make sure it’s seasoned,’ she said.

Over a hot pan, she cooked the patty on both sides until it was golden brown.

‘Then I add a slice of smoky cheddar cheese. I put my buns in there as well to make them nice, buttery and crispy,’ she said.

To make the sauce, she simply combined mayo, tomato sauce, Dijon mustard, pickle juice, garlic powder, salt and pepper together.

‘Mix that up and that’s your special sauce,’ she said.

To assemble, she spread a dollop of sauce to the bottom bun, topped with diced onions, beef patty with melted cheese, sliced tomatoes and fresh lettuce.

She then spread another layer of sauce to the top bun, then placed over the lettuce.
