Chris Edward Christensen, 25, Minot, is accused of strangling a woman during a domestic violence altercation on Sept. 9 and of beating her on Sept. 12.

He is charged in district court in Minot with Class C felony domestic violence causing serious bodily injury.

This was the second time in four months that Christensen has been charged with felony domestic violence. In early August, Christensen had been sentenced to two years in prison, all suspended but 100 days, and two years of supervised probation for strangling a woman on May 14. With credit for 80 days already served, Christensen was released about three weeks later.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed with the court in the latest case, the woman told police that she was afraid Christensen was going to kill her, said Christensen has threatened to kill her several times in the past and has often been violent with her. The woman had bruises in various stages of healing all over her arms and reported pain in her throat.

Christensen made an initial appearance on the latest charge on Monday before Judge Doug Mattson. When Christensen admitted that he fell asleep when a correctional officer played a recording of their rights for inmates earlier on Monday, Mattson told Christensen that he could make his initial appearance on Tuesday instead since he hadn’t paid attention to the recording. This meant that Mattson did not set bond on Monday and Christensen had to spend at least one more night in jail.
