Coronavirus: Pregnant Katy Perry ‘in lockdown’ in Sydney hotel

Katy Perry is reportedly ‘in lockdown’ in her Sydney hotel as coronavirus anxiety grips Australia.

The American singer, 35, is believed to have flown into the city after performing a bushfire relief concert in rural Victoria on Wednesday night.

Katy, who is expecting her first child with fiancé Orlando Bloom, was apparently scheduled to do press interviews on Thursday, but cancelled as a safety precaution.

A source told Daily Mail Australia the decision to cancel her press commitments was made after a ‘coronavirus scare’ among record label staff.

The Sunshine Coast Daily reported that two employees at the Universal Music Australia building in Woolloomooloo had been exposed to the virus. As a result, staff members were told to ‘quarantine themselves’ until Monday.

A celebrity photographer, who asked to remain anonymous, also said that Katy didn’t leave her hotel all day on Thursday.

Despite this claim, she did upload an Instagram Story post about 4pm (AEST) from Circular Quay that showed the word ‘WASH’ written in the sky.

She captioned it: ‘rn [right now] in Sydney.’

However, it’s unclear if she took the picture herself as the sky-written message ‘WASH HANDS’ was widely photographed by Sydneysiders.

Katy hasn’t been pictured in Australia since the FIGHT ON bushfire recovery concert in Bright, Victoria, on Wednesday. The show was in support of volunteer firefighters who have been battling wildfires in recent months.

She’d appeared on several TV and radio shows in Melbourne ahead of the concert, including The Project, Hughesy & Ed and Fifi, Fev and Byron.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Katy Perry’s representatives for comment.

Katy said on Monday that her parents were hesitant to make any physical contact with her during her pregnancy amid growing fears over coronavirus.

Health authorities have advised the public not to shake hands, hug or kiss in order to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

The Wide Awake hitmaker told radio show Hughesy & Ed that her mother and father were taking these recommendations very seriously.

She said: ‘My parents fist-bumped me the other day. I was like, “What? Okay. I don’t know… cool.”

‘I came out of them and everything, but I was like, “Sure, yeah.” That’s what watching the news forever will do, I guess!’

Meanwhile, Katy’s fiancé, Orlando Bloom, announced on Thursday that production  on season two of his Amazon Prime series Carnival Row had been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The British actor posted a video to Instagram from the set in Prague, saying: ‘It’s farewell from us as we go home to be quarantined.’

He added that production had shut down to allow cast and crew to return to the U.S. before President Trump’s travel ban from Europe comes into effect from midnight on Friday.

‘We’re coming home to the States, at least I’m coming home to the States because we want to get in before the quarantine,’ he explained.

‘Big love everybody, stay safe out there. Self quarantine. It seems really crazy actually this whole corona thing but do the right thing by you and your family and stay safe.’

Orlando, who looked in good spirits, ended the video by declaring: ‘A few weeks, we’ll beat this bad boy.’
