A new beauty trend known as ‘dolphin skin’ has surfaced on Instagram – a term to describe an eye-catching yet seemingly effortless dewy glow.

The trend was granted its unique name due to the wet look it creates on the skin without appearing to be oily – similarly to the smooth skin of a dolphin.

The term was devised by A-list celebrity makeup artist Mary Phillips, whose client list includes the likes of Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez, Kendell Jenner and Hailey Bieber.

In an interview with Glamour UK, Ms Phillips said the look can be achieved by layering illuminating makeup products on top of each other.

She suggests first using the brand’s Sheer Blush product to add a ‘sheer gloss of colour to the cheekbone, to add to the dewy wet glow.’

Australians can purchase the products in bundles or individually from the Iconic London website or beauty retailers, such as Adore Beauty.

But beauty enthusiasts can also create the look with other products they already own, as long as the makeup has a shimmer effect rather than matte.

While the trend is new, the look is easy to achieve and only requires applying more layers of shimmery makeup for an intensified, glitter-encrusted glow.

To create the look first apply a moisturiser and oil to hydrate the skin, then use a fluffy brush to apply a product that has a glittery pigment – such as a blush or bronzer – along the cheekbones.

Strengthen this shimmer by applying a liquid highlighter onto parts of the face that would naturally catch the light, including the upper cheekbones, tip of the nose, under the eyebrows and the cupid’s bow on the top lip.

HOW TO CREATE THE ‘DOLPHIN SKIN’ LOOK

To achieve the ‘dolphin skin’ look you’ll need a bronzer or blush and a liquid highlighter

For this look, a liquid highlighter is also recommended rather than using a powder.

By using more blush, bronzer and highlighter ultimately creates this new glamorous ‘dolphin skin’ wet look without being too overpowering.

Thousands of women who have tried the look themselves have shared images and videos on social media, leading to a spike in the trend.
