Pete Evans teases entry into politics

On January 15, 2021 by Xoonews.com

Controversial celebrity chef Pete Evans has hinted at a career in politics through a bizarre and cryptic post on Instagram.

The notorious anti-vaxxer and former My Kitchen Rules judge on Friday morning posted an image of the Great Australian Party, which is led by another colourful figure – former One Nation senator Rod Culleton.

Evans captioned the party logo with a quote from 18th century political philosopher Edmund Burke, who was a conservative Irish statesman known for his strong support of the American Revolution.

“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing,” he quoted, followed by a tease for his followers, “Stay tuned for an announcement next week”.

Mr Culleton, a Western Australia-based politician, initially sat as a One Nation senator and then independent following the 2016 election.

But he was booted from this position later that same year after the Federal Court found he was bankrupt.

In 2017, the High Court also ruled that Mr Culleton was ineligible to run as a senator due to a larceny charge in NSW.

Mr Culleton intends to run for the Senate for the Great Australia Party in the next federal election alongside Daryl O’Bryan in Victoria and several other candidates.

The small party lists policies related to tax reform, the elimination of local councils and the abolition of the Reserve Bank.

In August, Evans revealed his political allegiance while donning a red “Make America Great Again” cap synonymous with Donald Trump loyalists as he declared his support for the outgoing president in a video posted online.

“Yeah I’m going to say it, go Trump,” Evans said in the lead-up to the US election in which Mr Trump was beaten by Democrat Joe Biden.

“Right now is the time we need to be educating ourselves, empowering ourselves and sharing this information far and wide … to end this bulls..t.”

Like his political hero, Evans’s controversial views have led to him being abandoned by major platforms, including social media and Spotify.

The former pizza chef was kicked off Facebook late last year after posting false claims about coronavirus and vaccines throughout the pandemic.

A Facebook spokesperson said at the time, “We don’t allow anyone to share misinformation about COVID-19 vaccines that have been debunked by public health experts.

“We have clear policies against this type of content and we’ve removed chef Pete Evans’ Facebook page for repeated violations of these policies.”

Before having his page removed, Evans claimed he was quitting the platform and moving to far-right social media site Parler.

His comments came after he shared a neo-Nazi cartoon online and was swiftly dumped by his publisher Pan Macmillan Australia.

Evans was also set to appear in the current series of I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here on Channel 10, but he was removed from the cast.

NCA NewsWire has reached out to the Great Australia Party to comment on the possibility of Evans joining the party.
